That’s like hearing a language you don’t understand and dismissing it as stupid. It’s fine if you’re five years old, but as an adult? Educate yourself. Read. Observe. You might just find yourself loving it. Kandinsky, Malevich, Mondrian, Pollock, Rothko… it’s an entire universe open to interpretation—plus millions and millions of dollars behind it.
Try to catch the melody of jazz in art. Look beyond the paint. There’s no ‘user manual’ to understand it, but a quick historical scan and a closer look at the title can help a lot.
Abstractionism is the art of intellect. Nobody ever promised life would be easy. Still think artists should depict an exact copy of the real world? Take your iPhone and snap a selfie.
Can you dislike abstraction? Of course. Not get it? Impossible.
